The history of Duracell products
In our days, Duracell brand is know as one of the largest battery manufacturers and retailers in the world. However, its history goes back to the 20s of the last century. The cooperation of the inventor and scientist Samuel Ruben and entrepreneur Philip Rogers Malloy, who met during that time, has resolved in creation of the line of new and wonderful products. For, Samuel Ruben has invented mercury cells, which could hold much more capacity in less space. Moreover, these first Duracell products were significantly more durable and fitting for use in harsh climates. This was a very timely and demanded invention. For, those were the war years and such Duracell batteries, which could be used in different devices in the climatic conditions of North Africa or the South Pacific region, were much demanded. Thus, Malloy was able to manufacture millions of those first Duracell products for the needs of war.
However, the brand name Duracell was not introduced until the year of 1964. in 1996 Duracell merged with the Gillette Company and later on in 2005 became the part of P&G, when the Gillette company was purchased by it.
Presently Duracell manufactures alkaline batteries. Among the Duracell products there are AAA, AA, C, D, and 9V common size batteries; AAAA and J lesser size batteries, which are mainly used for pagers, pen lights, blood glucose meters and other medical devices. There are also "button" batteries, used in calculators, hearing aids, and other devices. Duracell products include also various specialty batteries, such as NiMH rechargeable batteries, different batteries for cameras, watches, hearing aids, etc. Plus, among the Duracell products there can be found batteries of different shapes. One of the latest innovations of this company is prismatic batteries. They are distinctive by their prismatic shape, which differentiates them from all other cylindrical shape batteries.
Duracell products have two main lines of batteries. Those are Coppertop and Ultra battery brands. Coppertop Duracell brand is known as being the long-lasting life batteries and Ultra are mainly created for using them in digital devices and other devices that need more power. Moreover, Duracell company manufactures both alkaline and lithium batteries. New prismatic batteries, for instance, are available both in alkaline and lithium designs. However, Coppertop and Ultra batteries mainly run on the Alkaline Manganese Dioxide chemistry. The assortment of Duracell products was enlarged through the introduction of Power Pix metal hydroxyl technology batteries. These Duracell batteries provide even longer life to digital devices, such as cameras and allow their users almost to double the number of pictures taken by their cameras without having to recharge the batteries, that is compared to the number or pictures, taken with cameras, which run on ordinary alkaline batteries.
